"yolk"は「卵の黄身」じゃあ、"yoke"は？

ポール・クルーグマンのコラム"Lust for Gold"の中に以下の一文がありました。

"John Maynard Keynes famously dismissed the gold standard as a “barbarous relic,” noting the absurdity of yoking the fortunes of a modern industrial society to the supply of a decorative metal."
「ジョン・メイナード・ケインズが、現代産業社会の富を装飾金属の供給に結びつけることの不条理さをあげ、金本位制を野蛮な過去の遺物と片付けてしまったのは有名である。」

Merriam-Websterのサイトによると、
"yoke"は以下のように説明されています。
a wooden bar or frame by which two draft animals (as oxen) are joined at the heads or necks for working together
「２頭の動物（牛など）を一緒に働かせるために、頭や首でつなぐ為の木でできた枠や棒。」
つまり、「軛」のことなのですが、今回のように動詞として使われると、
"to join as if by a yoke"
「鋤を使ったかのように、つなぐ」という意味になります。
