「関連性」を英語で？

TheNewYorkTimesで連載しているPaulKrugmanのコラム"The Chutzpah Caucus"に以下の一文がありました。

"And there’s a reason for that association: U.S. conservatives have long followed a strategy of “starving the beast,” slashing taxes so as to deprive the government of the revenue it needs to pay for popular programs."
「その関連性には理由がある。アメリカの保守派は”獣を餓えさせる”という戦略を長い間とってきている。ひと目をひくプログラムに必要な予算を政府から奪うため、税金をけずりとるのだ」

Merriam-Websterのサイトでは"association"は以下のように説明されています。
the process of forming mental connections or bonds between sensations, ideas, or memories
「衝撃的な出来事やアイデアもしくは記憶などを頭のなかで関連付ける又は連想付ける過程」
