Googleイメージで"retainer"を検索してみると歯の矯正具がずらっと出てきます。
映画のGood Will Huntingの中で、ベン・アフレックが"retainer"と叫んで面接官からお金を巻き上げていたシーンがあった気がします。この場合は、「手付金」みたいな意味になります。
