"be deserted" = 「見捨てられる」

"desert"をググると以下のように説明されています。

"abandon (a person, cause, or organization) in a way considered disloyal or treacherous"

「不忠実または不誠実とみられるやり方で（人や主義または組織を）見捨てること」

語源をたどると、

"somethign left waste"(残りもの)を意味するラテン語の"desertum"にたどり着きます。
