fallow = ploughed and harrowed but left for a period without being sown in order to restore its fertility or to avoid surplus production

日本人の感覚だと田んぼの”休耕田”見たいなものをイメージとして浮かんできました。
要は土地を豊かにするために休ませる、という意味です。
