「旅の終盤には限界に近かった。体調が悪く、疲れていて、精神的にまいっていた」

"the last leg of the journey" = 「旅の終盤」

merriam-websterのサイトによると"leg"の意味には

”leg” = a limb of an animal used especially for supporting the body and for walking"、つまり

「足」という意味のほかに

 

”leg = the course and distance sailed by a boat on a single tack”

「一回の旋回で帆船が航行したコースと距離」という意味があります。そこから派生して「旅の一部分」と意味が来ています。
